What is Dr. Sitapara’s Endoscopic “Ponytail” Mini-Lift?

A “Ponytail” mini-facelift is a procedure that is very complementary to those showing early signs of aging and is intended for individuals in their late 30’s and 40’s. It is a quicker “fix” of the sagging skin that accompanies us with time. The invasiveness of surgery, the incisions, and, thereby, the scarring and recovery are all lighter and less involved than a traditional deep plane facelift. In our endoscopic mini-lift procedure, Dr. Sitapara usually chooses the area behind the ears and the hairline as prime incision sites to access the underlying tissues and minimize scarring.

What’s the
first step?

The first step in getting our mini-lift will start with your initial consultation at Prime Facial Plastic Surgery. During your consultation, double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jigar Sitapara will discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, and expectations. He will examine your face, identifying target incision sites, as he outlines the procedure and its associated risks, benefits, and recovery patterns. He will discuss the best techniques to meet your goals, and if they align with your expectations and you decide to move forward with the procedure, he will make a customized surgical plan. Once you have this plan, you can share it with our patient coordinator for pricing, scheduling, and receiving any pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Mini-Lift Surgery

On the day of your endoscopic “ponytail” facelift in Baltimore at Prime Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sitapara and his staff will welcome you and get you settled in our state-of-the-art surgical suite. They will review the surgical plan to make sure you are comfortable with it. It is of utmost importance to Dr. Sitapara that patients are fully comfortable with the procedure ahead of surgery. Finally, you will be administered IV anesthesia by a board-certified anesthesiologist.

 Once sedated, Dr. Sitapara will start by making small incisions behind your ears and hairline. Once he has access to your underlying tissues, he will perform deep plane release in the neck, jawline, and brow regions. He can contour the fatty layers as needed and perform a deep plane lift of the SMAS and platysma muscles. During this procedure, he will be shaping your upper and lower face as per your aesthetic goals. He will assess the facial anatomy once the chin, jawline, and cheekbone area are tightened. After he is satisfied with the final proportions, he will remove any redundant skin and close the incisions with sutures.

 Due to its comprehensive natura, Dr. Sitapara’s endoscopic “ponytail” facelift or mini-lift can take five to seven hours on average and without complications. It is an outpatient procedure and his patients go home the same day.

Mini-facelift Recovery (Endoscopic “ponytail” facelift recovery)

After your mini-lift surgery, the staff will monitor you in the recovery room. You are required to have a family member or friend drive you home. Dr. Sitapara’s staff will share post-operative instructions which should be followed for the smoothest recovery.

 Post-surgery, patients should expect some mild swelling and bruising. These symptoms will fade within 7-10 days. Dissolvable sutures are used within any hair bearing areas (no staples). Mini facelift scars are well hidden and are well concealed by your hairline.
