Chin Implant

Introduction to Chin Implant

Every face is a unique work of art, with each feature contributing to its overall harmony and beauty. Even a small imbalance in one feature can affect the entire composition, influencing how we perceive ourselves and how others see us. A weak or overly pronounced chin can alter the entire frame of the face, creating insecurities. With a chin implant, we are able to help patients achieve ideal balance and symmetry, enhancing their natural beauty and boosting their confidence.

At Prime Facial Plastic Surgery, Dr. Jigar Sitapara is highly regarded in the Baltimore and Howard County areas for his blend of professional expertise and effortless approachability. Located in a world-class medical suite in Columbia, M.D., Dr. Sitapara and his team are here to help patients from all over Columbia, Baltimore, and surrounding Howard County areas put their best face forward and restore their frame of mind.

What is a Chin Implant?

Chin implantation, medically known as Genioplasty or Mentoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed for both men and women to alter the size and shape of your chin and address concerns about a weak or receded chin. The results can create a more balanced profile and enhance your overall facial aesthetics.

Our chin implants are made from silicone material, which varies in size and shape and can be molded to fit around your chin bone. Dr. Sitapara will walk you through the process of choosing the most naturally fitting implant for your face.

Dr. Sitapara’s Personalized Approach

Dr. Sitapara will customize your chin implant based on your facial structure and your needs. He will place a larger implant in those with more severe chin recession and even carve the implant to conform to your desired goals. Individuals with a lack of support in the marionette region will choose an implant with larger wings to combat bone resorption during aging. By customizing the implant to your facial skeletal structure, he is able to achieve incredibly natural chin implant results.

Let’s Get Started

What’s the
first step?

If you’re considering a chin implant, the first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Sitapara at Prime Facial Plastic Surgery. During your appointment, you can discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, and expectations for surgery. Dr. Sitapara will examine your chin, jawline, and overall facial anatomy to assess whether a chin implant is the right approach for your goals. Photos may be taken during your consultation or before your implant surgery to refer to after receiving your new chin.

Dr. Sitapara will show you what your new profile would look like with a chin implant using your photos and his surgical simulator. This will help him develop a personalized surgery plan with you. Your surgical concierge will help you schedule your procedure, review your pricing options, and provide pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Chin Implant Surgery

On the day of your chin implant, you will be greeted by our patient coordinators when you come into our luxurious, private surgical center. Dr. Sitapara will meet with you to review the steps and goals of your procedure. When you are feeling comfortable and ready, an anesthesiologist will administer your sedation, as discussed during your initial consultation.

Dr. Sitapara will make a small incision under your chin to create a pocket for the implant. Placing your incision in a natural skin crease will heal optimally with minimal visibility. He then carefully places the implant in its location, maneuvering it to create a natural-looking appearance and securing it to enhance your chin’s shape and profile. He will then close the incision with sutures to finish your surgery. You can expect to have bandages or gauze wrap to help support and protect your new implant.

A chin implant will generally take about one to two hours. After the surgery, you will remain in our recovery room until a member of our post-surgical team discharges you.

Chin Implant Recovery

As an outpatient procedure, you will be able to return home the same day of your surgery. However, you will require a family member or friend to drive you home. Before you leave, we will provide you with some post-operative instructions that you must follow to achieve the safest and best results possible.

You can expect to experience minor swelling and bruising around your chin, jaw, and neck. This is completely normal and should subside within a week or two. Dr. Sitapara can prescribe some temporary pain medication to alleviate any discomfort during the initial days of your surgery.

Patients are advised to keep their heads elevated and avoid strenuous activities for the first week to reduce swelling and encourage healing. Most of our Baltimore and Columbia chin implant patients can expect to return to work a week post-surgery but will still need to avoid contact sports or any activities that can impact the chin for four to six weeks.

If you have any questions or concerns about your recovery timeline or your ability to participate in certain activities, please consult with Dr. Sitapara.
